August Rehabbers Club Meeting: 1510 9th St.
August 9, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
We hope you can join us this Saturday to visit Breanne and Aaron Barnum’s house, known as the Farmhouse. It’s a big brick house on an extra large lot and may be one of the first houses built on that block.
When: Saturday, Aug. 9th, 1pm-2:30pm
Where: 1510 9th St., Des Moines, IA 50314
Cost: Our monthly meetings are always free and open to the public.
Here’s some info about the house from Breanne:
“According to the assessor’s page, it was built in 1876, however, that also coincides with the year property taxes started being collected. Many architects and historians have put the construction of the home around 1840. Early in the life of the house, a large addition was put on doubling the size of the home. Visitors will be able to see the original exposed brick of the front of the house that now backdrops an ornate staircase.
The house sat in foreclosure for three years, and was broken into, vandalized, and urban mined. We are currently working on cleaning up the vandal’s destruction as well as pulling windows to have them dipped and re-glassed and glazed. Once the house is winter ready, we will turn our attention to a complete kitchen remodel and the addition of a master bathroom.”
The Barnums hosted the Rehabbers back in 2012 at their previous River Bend project, known as the Greek Lady, which was featured in a WHO-TV story about Des Moines Rehabbers.
