Rehabbers Club March Meeting: House History & Abstract Party
March 8, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This month we’re teaming up with the Des Moines Historical Society to present a workshop on researching your home’s history. This workshop will provide the best online resources for finding general information about your home, as well as some tips and guidance for those who wish to go more in-depth with their research.
The workshop will also touch briefly on the process to have a home listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), as well as the Historic Tax Credit incentives that are available for homes either already on, or eligible for listing to, the NRHP.
Participants are encouraged to bring their home’s abstract with them for an “Abstract Party.” This part of the workshop will help homeowners decipher the legal language of abstracts, how they are used in researching a home, and the best way to store them for safekeeping. Participants will be encouraged to share information they find in their abstracts as they uncover valuable details.
Please note the extended time for this workshop. We want you to have plenty of time to ask questions and collaborate.
While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the North Side Library’s local history collection. Staff at the reference desk will help you access specific items for research.
